My daughter Sophie is a very busy person. No moss grows beneath her little feet. Maybe it runs in the family? Anyhoo, I've been having a hard time getting her to write out her Christmas thank you notes.
Well, victory is finally mine. But I'm not particularly proud of how I got it.
Me: You know how your birthday party will be next month?
Sophie: Oh, yes!
Me: Well I'm thinking of telling people that there will be NO PRESENTS.
Sophie: Really??? Whyyyyy?
Me: Because you have not finished thank you notes for your Christmas presents and we can't get new presents until we have thanked people for the old presents.
Sophie: Would you really do that???
Me: You betcha.
So if you are expecting a thank you note from my daughter, you should be receiving it soon.

I think that is a wonderful idea! I am BIG on thank you notes. My mom learned it from her mom, so I come from a long line of note writers. I was determined to get our wedding thank you notes completed within a month of the wedding!

I'm a stickler for thank you notes too. There was no shortage of moaning and groaning but SB finally finished his birthday thank yous last weekend. At this point, I'm just having him fill in the gift giver's name and sign his name. I'm hoping he can do a little more each year until he's the one writing the entire note.
This is so funny to me because when I was a kid, I HATED writing thank you notes. I used to joke that my brother, who was the perfect child, wrote his thank you notes before he even opened his gifts.
Now I love to write them, though...I consider it professional training, being a writer and all...Can you write off stationary?
That's hilarious...I suppose I shouldn't laugh as I'm sure I'll be dealing with the same thing in a few years with my little guy!!! Come to think of it I JUST reminded my husband again to write his XMAS thank you notes.
I too think this is a great idea. Thank you notes are sadly becoming a lost art... I learned really young and it has always stuck with me. Your daughter is such a little lady!

it IS HARD, i have to add, when SOMEONE in the family is not very good at this type of thing, and thus the good modeling (and the harping and cajoling)falls to THE OTHER ONE each time.
