Happy birthday to the MIL

We celebrated my mother-in-law's 84th birthday the other night at The Dead Fish in Crockett. A ridiculously long way to drive for good food, but my MIL thinks it's the bomb, and it was her birthday and it does have very good fresh fish (that's also dead).

Here's the card Sophie made for her:

An amazing likeness, don't you think? She gets MIL's hair, one of her most striking features, just right. Here's the two girls at dinner.

Here's what Sophie had for dinner.

No longer content with a children's menu ("I would like to order a real dinner"), she opted for the fresh halibut with toy box tomatoes, zucchini, calamata olives, and garlic in a lemon caper sauce.

My MIL has had a tough year, encountering many age-related health problems, but she's faced them with humor and grace. We wish her many more years to come.

There is no drive too far for a really good meal. We used to drive 2+ hours to eat at a place called McNally's near Kernville. Best steaks I've ever had. It's worth the drive!
