That tree's not gone quite yet. . . . A recipe for the birds & squirrels

I talked Husband into letting me hang onto it just a little longer.


I always stock a hanging feeder for the birds and squirrels that populate our neighborhood (we live on the edge of a regional park), but after the recent storms, I thought they needed a special treat.

I made the following suet-like mixture, spread it on the tree branches, and sprinkled it wild bird seed:

1 cup solid vegetable shortening
1 cup peanut butter
3 cups yellow cornmeal
l cup white or whole wheat flour
