I am currently on tour

Have you ever been on one of those charity kitchen tours? Where you go from house to house marveling at the kitchens of people who clearly spent more outfitting them than you did on the entire purchase of your house? Are we supposed to be inspired? I usually snort and observe that "We could do that too if we SOLD THE CAR." And I always wonder if anyone really cooks in them.

If you'd like to see some real kitchens—including mine—and hear how real people who absolutely do cook outfit and organize, come on over to what I think is the best food blog in the world, userealbutter.

Reading the comments has been fun. This is my favorite:
I love an uncluttered kitchen for myself, but find myself drawn to the coziness of Cindy’s.
Did she just call my kitchen cluttered??! OK, fine. It is, but there's a lot going on in it!!

Stay tuned for more kitchens coming up!

I think your kitchen looks great! Wish I could join you and Sophie for dinner!

I have stopped buying decor magazines because the houses and kitchens featured are obviously never lived in and enjoyed. They seem to be designed for the sole purpose of impressing the caterers. Give me your well-used and well-loved kitchen anyday!

I love your kitchen. It looks happy! And most important, one can tell you cook for your family. It resonates all over your kitchen. It looks like the central pulse of your family.

Great to see your kitchen Cindy. I love the window that looks out on the garden. I miss having my boys art covering my fridge.

I think your kitchen is great!

And I am curious about your floor -- is that linoleum or a look-alike?

I love the music stand in the kitchen- such a good way for the family to all be together. Also good tip on starting a party with a clean dish washer, I'm going to have to remember that one.

Wow, you do have a lot of "stuff".
I think it looks great, especially that stand. Is that a recipe/cookbook holder. I love that it's free standing and doesn't take up any extra counter space!

Love your kitchen! It personifies home.

Cluttered? -- No I think it looks lovely. I also hate those design books that show sterile rooms that have have been staged to death.

My gfs and I went on a Holiday Home tour this year. We thought we should change the name to the "go home and feel bad about yourself and all the things you hate about your own home" tour. Nice big kitchen! I hate mine, but c'est la vie.

Thanks for the kind words, all!

Trish: Yep--it's the original linoleum. I hated it when we first bought the house, but it's sort of grown on me. It has this pattern in it that is worn smooth right in front of the sink, where I guess I'm always standing.

Eggs: That's Sophie's violin music stand, but I love the idea of using it for recipes. It would probably keep my cookbooks in better shape. As it is, I can always turn quickly to the pages of recipes I use most because they are stiff and crusty.

glad to know I'm not the only one that ruins a perfectly good cook book with food remnants!!
Very clever idea!
