I cancelled our school auction

Bought a purse, cancelled an auction. All in a day's work for a busy gal like me.

Not really!!! But in the spirit of April Fools Day—demonstrating that I am indeed a fool—I sent out an email to the entire school (I'm pres. of the PTA-like organization, so I do this all the time) announcing that our annual silent auction was cancelled. And then I said "Kidding!", reminded people it was coming up, and urged them to get their donations in to me so I can log them into my nifty database, produce the auction catalog, and cough out bid sheets.

I'm sure Husband got all excited because this would be an ultimate fantasy for him. No auction! No pile of donations stacking up on our dining room table! No catalog! No crazed wife!

Nope. Not a chance. But it's tempting after reading the New York Times article about women who make a hobby of haunting school auctions so they can get their hands on those gift baskets of plastic encased crap people feel compelled to cobble together. I always thought nobody wanted those damn things (they just don't seem to make economic sense to me) and that people bought them only to help the cause. Apparently not. All I know is that if I see women like this crashing our auction, I'm running.

Seriously people seek out those baskets?

Where in the world did you find that lovely photo of those denizens of our current hometown?
